JACK STUHRMAN developed his art skills early and began his studies at Paier School of Art in Hamden Connecticut where he earned a BFA. He studied under Ken Davies and the Pulitzer Prize in art winner Rudolf Zalinger. He later broadened his studies at the University of Connecticut earning a BA, and the University of West Georgia where he was awarded an MA in psychology.
Besides his art, Jack has worked in psychology, building construction, and business. He has studied the Civil War extensively, and continues to learn about the great struggle our Nation went through.
(Jack) John Henry Stuhrman’s great-grandfather was also named John Henry Stuhrman, and was a veteran of the Civil War. John Henry was wounded at the battle of Colecamp Missouri, and his wife was the former Marie Kansteiner whose husband Lieutenant William Kansteiner was killed in this same battle. John and Marie married in 1864. John’s brother William Stuhrman fought on the opposing side for the Confederacy.
Jack strives for accuracy and authenticity in his paintings, with the objective of giving the viewer the feeling that he or she could be present at the event he is portraying.
