| In northeast Rockdale County there still stands, a mill built over 150 years ago. On November 17 the left wing of Shermans two columns, on their march through Georgia had reached the mill. This column was known as the Army of Georgia, and was commanded by Lieutenant General Henry Slocum. The scene shows General Slocum dismounting from his horse to speak to Winnie Puckett. The soldiers in the back ground are preparing to burn the mill, but the officers in command agree to leave it standing so the population can use it to grind grain into flour and help keep the population from starving during the winter months. |
