| February 22, 1864. General Nathan B. Forrests Calvary overtakes a rear guard action defending the retreat of the Federal Army under General Sooy Smith at Iveys Hill south of Pontotoc Mississippi. The colorful General Forrest, fearless, and often leading his men into battle had 30 horses shot from under him. His bold and unconventional tactics made him feared among many Federal military personnel. After the War General William T. Sherman said the war produced two geniuses: Abraham Lincoln and General Forrest. Sherman said no educated military man could predict Forrest because he had never read a military manual. |
